27/04/2026

H.E. Mr. Mohammed bin Hassan AL-Obaidli, Director General of the Executive Bureau of the Council of GCC Ministers of Labour and Social Affairs, affirmed that GCC countries have made tangible progress in integrating mental health into occupational safety and health (OSH) systems, embedding it within the GCC strategic framework to enhance policy coherence and support more balanced and sustainable work environments.

He made the remarks during his address at a virtual event organized by Qatar’s Ministry of Labour, in cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO), marking the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026 under the theme “Towards a Psychologically Supportive Work Environment,” with participation from officials and experts.

AL-Obaidli stressed that psychosocial risks in the workplace require a comprehensive institutional response that goes beyond traditional OSH approaches, through preventive policies, strengthened partnerships with international organizations, and the use of advanced technologies to monitor and assess workplace risks.

He noted that international data, including ILO reports, highlight the human and economic impact of psychosocial risks, underscoring the need for enhanced regional and global cooperation to advance work models that prioritize mental well-being.

He also commended Qatar’s efforts in promoting mentally supportive work environments, describing them as a regional benchmark, while emphasizing the importance of continued GCC coordination to develop modern regulatory frameworks aligned with evolving labour market dynamics.

The event addressed key challenges related to workplace mental health amid rapid global changes, emphasizing the need for institutional practices that promote worker well-being and work-life balance, ultimately contributing to productivity and sustainability.
